Junior Achievement is still looking for volunteers to support several initiatives this Spring – this time of year is busy, we know, so we are pleased to present an array of ways to engage with financial and career education across the Cedar Valley!

ONE DAY EXPERIENCES

JA Financial Literacy Fairs with Waterloo Middle Schools –students select a career and then ‘shop’ around with their monthly salary. Students spend 45 minutes seeing if they can meet all their needs and wants, and deciding what purchases need to be prioritized. Volunteers lead students in decision-making for each budget category.

Dates:

April 22nd – Central

May 16th – Bunger

May 20th – Carver

May 22nd – Hoover

Time commitment: typically, 7.30 AM – noon, noon – 3, or all day

Still wanting to help with our Classroom Programs? Find a list of available classroom volunteer opportunities starting mid-April HERE. Please email Jen Rusch at jrusch@jaeasterniowa.org if you are interested in helping with any of these at all!

SEE OPTIONS FOR OTHER ONE DAY EXPERIENCES:

JA Finance Park Mobile at Janesville Consolidated – our flagship capstone event in the Cedar Valley, 8th grade students will take part in a budgeting simulation where they are given a hypothetical life scenario (career, spouse, children), and will create a budget and shop within that salary. Volunteers will workaround the simulation with small groups of students, guiding short discussions around each category and sharing lived experiences.

Date: April 18th

Time commitment: 7.30 AM – noon.
