Celebrate Small Businesses
May 2, 2023

National Small Business Week is a week-long celebration of the contributions of small businesses to the U.S. economy. It is held each year during the week of the first Friday in May. The week is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and is co-hosted by SCORE, mentors to America's small businesses.

The purpose of National Small Business Week is to recognize the importance of small businesses to the U.S. economy and to celebrate the achievements of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy, accounting for 99.9% of all businesses in the United States. They create two-thirds of net new jobs and generate half of the nation's private gross domestic product.

National Small Business Week is a time to celebrate the successes of small businesses and to learn more about the challenges they face. It is also a time to show your support for small businesses by shopping at local businesses, patronizing small business events, and volunteering your time to help small businesses succeed.

Here are some ways you can celebrate National Small Business Week:

  • Shop at local businesses. When you shop at local businesses, you are putting money back into your community. Local businesses support local schools, charities, and other organizations. They also create jobs and boost the local economy.
  • Patronize small business events. There are many small business events held throughout the year. These events are a great way to meet local business owners, learn about their businesses, and support their efforts.
  • Volunteer your time to help small businesses. There are many ways you can volunteer your time to help small businesses. You can help with marketing, customer service, or even just running errands.
  • Share your support on social media. Use social media to share your support for small businesses. Use the hashtag #SmallBusinessWeek to show your support and connect with other small business owners and supporters.
